2019 Elections Watch: Nigerians Say No to Buhari’s Re-election Bid (Details)


Recent Developments have shown that a large percentage of the Nigerian populace are not so keen on welcoming president Muhammadu Buhari’s 2nd term Election bid.

In a shocking poll conducted by the Punch Newspapers, titled “Will you vote for Buhari in 2019?” which was conducted on the newspaper’s website a large percentage of Nigerians rejected the president’s Re-election Bid.
The poll gauged the opinions of Nigerians using three options for participants. Those who wanted to vote for the President again in 2019 answered by clicking ‘ YES ’ while those with a contrary opinion clicked the ‘ NO ’ button. The last option was for those who were indifferent to Buhari’s choice.

The poll went live on Thursday, 5.48pm. As of 11 pm on Saturday, out of the 9,524 participants who took part in the poll, 58 percent (5,519 respondents) said they would not vote for Buhari in 2019. A total of 3,588 people, amounting to 38 percent, said ‘ YES ’ to the poll while four percent (417 votes ) were indifferent to Buhari ’ s 2019 re-election bid.

The shocking results indicate that a lot of Nigerians are not happy with the present administration. Although the president has not formally indicated or announced his interest to contest for second term, several developments have shown that he has intentions to. Last Wednesday, Buhari reappointed the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, as the Director General of his 2019 election campaign, confirming reports of reports of his re-election Bid.

Meanwhile, Several chieftains of the Ruling APC have backed the president’s second term Bid.Governor Nasir el -Rufai of Kaduna State, has expressed support for the President’s re-election. Minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu has also endorsed the president for Second term.
