Police capture robbery suspect, recover weapons in Enugu

The Police Command, Enugu State, has arrested a suspected armed robber whose gang had been terrorising the residents of Awgu Local Government Area and its environs.

Police also recovered a locally-made pistol and 14 live cartridges from the suspect.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Thursday that the feat was achieved by operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) on Dec. 27 at about 12 noon.

Amaraizu said that the CTU operatives were on duty at Ogbaku Community Junction in Awgu Council Area before the suspect was nabbed after a search inside a commercial bus.

“It was gathered that the suspect and his gang members, allegedly acting as passengers with mischievous intentions, were in a commercial bus which was later stopped by the operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) at Ogbaku community junction in Awgu council area for a search.

“It was further gathered that the suspect and his gang had allegedly abandoned their exhibit inside the bag and pretended to be coming out for search and from there they jumped into the bush.

“They were promptly pursued, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects who later revealed that they have a gun and cartridges inside the bag in the said commercial bus,’’ he said.

The spokesman said that the suspect had been helping the police operatives in their investigation in relation to their nefarious activities in the state.
